Why Choose Oriental Shorthair

Choosing a kitten is part practical decision, part emotional connection. We make both parts simple and trustworthy.

Ethical, responsible breeding We breed for temperament, health, and structure. Every breeding decision is made with long term welfare in mind. We do not overbreed, and we prioritize genetic health testing, sensible pairing, and responsible whelping environments.

Health first Our kittens come with full vaccination records, microchip, and a written health guarantee. We work with experienced veterinarians for prenatal and neonatal care, and every kitten receives a full wellness check before leaving for their new home. See the Health Guarantee page for details.

Early socialization and enrichment From day one our kittens are exposed to human handling, varied sounds, novel toys, and gentle experiences. This early enrichment develops confident, adaptable kittens that settle quickly into family life.

Transparent records and lifetime support Each kitten leaves with a folder that includes vaccination history, deworming schedule, vet notes, and care tips. We support new owners by phone or email after the adoption. Adopting from us includes a lifetime of guidance.

Clean, caring environment Our cattery is maintained to the highest standards of hygiene, climate control, and comfort. We prioritize cleanliness, safety, and plenty of supervised play space.

Selective placement We are careful about the homes our kittens go to. We look for families who will match the kitten’s temperament and who will commit to lifelong care. We are available to discuss compatibility and long term needs.

Responsible shipping and delivery We arrange secure, comfortable shipping when necessary. All travel procedures comply with safety and legal requirements. See Shipping and Delivery for details.

Kittens Personality and What to Expect

Oriental Shorthairs are affectionate, curious, and lively. They are a breed that communicates, interacts, and insists on being involved. Here is a detailed look at their personality and how that translates to everyday life.

Social and talkative Oriental Shorthairs are known for their vocal, expressive nature. They will ‘talk’ to you in chirps, trills, and a wide range of meows. Expect conversations at breakfast, check-ins at your desk, and commentary on anything you move. For people who love a communicative companion, this is a delight.

High energy with bursts of calm They love play, exploration, and vertical space. A dedicated play session is essential each day, with interactive toys, feather wands, or puzzle feeders. After play they are masters of lap time. They strike a fine balance between athletic energy and devoted cuddling.

Intelligent and curious These cats learn routines and enjoy problem solving. Training is straightforward if you use positive reinforcement. Many learn to fetch, use puzzle toys, and even walk on a harness with patience. Mental enrichment prevents boredom based behaviors like scratching or obsessive play.

Affectionate and bonded Oriental Shorthairs form strong attachments to their families. They prefer company and can become lonely if left alone for long stretches. They often follow their person from room to room and enjoy sleeping near or on their human.

Good with families and other pets With proper introductions they integrate well with other cats and tolerant dogs. They are generally patient with older, gentle children. Supervision is recommended with toddlers until both kids and kittens learn boundaries and respectful handling.

Play style and daily life Play sessions should match their intensity. Offer multiple toys, climbing spaces, and regular household enrichment. Scratching posts, window perches, and cat trees keep them happily occupied. Provide quiet spaces for retreat, as even extroverted cats need downtime.

Care Basics

We want new owners to feel confident. These are the essential care elements for an Oriental Shorthair.

Nutrition High quality, protein rich food supports their active lifestyle. Kittens need growth formulas, while adults thrive on balanced diets with controlled portions to avoid weight issues. Fresh water should always be available. If switching food, do it gradually over 7 to 10 days to prevent upset stomachs.

Grooming Oriental Shorthairs have short, fine coats that require minimal grooming. Weekly brushing removes loose hair and helps keep the coat shiny. Regular dental care, nail trims, and ear checks are important parts of their routine.

Health care Follow your vet for vaccine schedules, parasite control, and regular wellness exams. We recommend annual exams for adults, more frequent checks for seniors, and immediate vet visits if you notice changes in appetite, stool, or behavior. We will provide vet records and recommended local veterinarians.

Enrichment and exercise Rotate toys weekly, invest in puzzle feeders, and create vertical spaces. A harness and leash walk can be a rewarding shared activity when introduced gently. Interactive games prevent boredom and strengthen your bond.

Litter box Keep boxes clean, and provide one box per cat plus one spare if you have more than one. Use fine, low dust clumping litter. Place boxes in quiet, accessible locations.
